The KIMFT conducts various education and training courses necessary for the seafarers of domestic and international merchant marines and fishing ships. The KIMFT as the unique reeducation institute in Korea is making its best efforts for contribution to the development of Korean shipping and fishing industry by performing annually the education for about 25 thousand seafarers together with on-board training on three training ships, conducting license examinations for more than 30 thousand applicants and accomplishing various research studies in shipping and fisheries fields. The Institute has moved to a new campus in Yeongdo Island located at the port of Busan in early 2011 from the existing campus in Yongdang- Dong where the training had been conducted for 27 years and is still being used as a branch training campus for International Ocean Polytech, and becomes capable of providing the utmost services in the new campus equipped with state-of-the-art training facilities and its incidental equipment in a more comfortable environment.

We are now facing an important varying situation in the shipping and fisheries industry. With the accelerative globalization and deepening free-trade systems the environmental condition of employment for marine human resources is changing rapidly caused by new demand of specialists for offshore installations, the operation of increasing international cruisers or WIG crafts, and also the share of foreign seafarers among the Korean employment market has increased to more than 40%.

The KIMFT is endeavoring to promote international competitiveness in shipping industry as well as the creation of new jobs by establishing the International Ocean Polytech of cultivation-producing elastically the elementary seafarers required by industrial circles, newly established at Yongdang-Dong ex-campus ground, for the training of human resources necessary for various offshore installations and ocean plants, so as to become an advanced global marine training institution.

The KIMFT is the organization for the employees in maritime and fisheries fields and is keeping in mind that the mission of the Institute can be accomplished through the provision of worldwide best training services, and we will do our best constantly.
